VE Day Challenge
Like so many other arts and community organisations, all activities of Lewis Merthyr Band are currently suspended due to the ongoing coronavirus situation.
This year, musicians from our band were due to travel to three continents to perform in a series of high profile international events marking the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and 75 years of peace in Europe. Due to the Covid-19 crisis however, these events have all, understandably, been postponed.
As with all other musical and wider community groups, the band have been unable to meet to rehearse and perform together weekly, but we simply couldn't let the 75th anniversary of VE Day pass without recording a tribute, albeit remotely and individually from 30 separate locations across South Wales and wider.
We were joined for this recording by some international friends also - from the Netherlands, New Zealand born soprano Crystel Benton; and from Trondheim, Norway our good friends Ronny & Ingrid Lauten who joined us remotely ahead of their wedding there later this week (Congratulations Both!)
So, here's our remote VE Day tribute. It'll be live free on YouTube from this Thursday, May 7th at 7:45pm because, as musicians across the country have been performing various pieces of music each Thursday ahead of the weekly nationwide "Clap for Carers", this week we're inviting YOU to join us in a special VE Day tribute, and spread a little hope and joy by joining us in a performance of We'll Meet Again this Thursday, May 7th at 7:58pm
A songsheet is available below, together with sheet music for any musicians who may want to join in and play in their own communities. An mp3 to practice along to is also included
